EPHRAIM INYANG-EYEN – HONOURABLE COMMISSIONER FOR WORKS

Born on November 25, 1965 to the family of Mr. & Mrs. Akparawa Inyang-Eyen of Nung Nya in Ikot Ebiere of Onna Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. Between 1977-1982, young Ephraim obtained his O/Level Certificate from Etinan Institute, Etinan. He proceeded to School of Basic Studies, Akamkpa from 1983 to 1985 and earned his A /Level in Mathematics, Chemistry and Geography.

Not done with his quest for education, Ephraim Inyang-Eyen in 1985 enrolled in the prestigious University of Ibadan, Nigeria where he obtained a Bachelor Degree of Science in Chemistry (Second Class Upper) in 1998, and in November 2014 he obtained a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Lagos. It is fact that a man of intellect will not relax to count on past glories but will continue to aim higher. This drive has propelled Mr. Ephraim Inyang-Eyen to be enrolled in the WALDEN UNIVERSITY for his Doctorate Degree. Currently, he is a candidate for Doctor of Business Administration of the University.

Professionally, Mr. Ephraim Inyang-Eyen as a brilliant secondary school leaver had a brief appointment as an Auxiliary Teacher in the then Cross River State Teaching Service Commission where he taught Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics at Community Secondary School, Okat in 1982.

In 1989, during his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme Ephraim worked as a Chemist with the Nigeria Railway Corporation and on 31st August, 1990, he enlisted in the Nigeria Customs Service as an Assistant Superintendent of customs.

Over the last 25 years in active service, Ephraim Inyang-Eyen has maintained a glittering and dignified career spanning various key departments of the service. Between 1992-1995, he served as Special Assistant to the O/C Terminal, Apapa Port, Lagos and moved on to the Bauchi Area Command, where he served as the Commands Public Relations Officer for over two years.

Back in Apapa Port Command, he served as Staff Officer of the largest Container Terminal in West Africa for four years where he was responsible for Staff and Operations Management. His ingenuity in turning around the revenue profile of the terminal always led to his immediate promotion.

At Jos Area Command, he was the Head of the Armoury Unit for about three years and was subsequently posted out on special duty as a member of the Special Task Force on Revenue. During his stint in the Task Force, he served at the KLTC Area command as an Acting O/C Terminal and Staff Officer.

Ephraim Inyang-Eyen was later posted to the Port Express Bonded Terminal as O/C Terminal, where he turned around a moribund terminal within thirty days and received several management accolades for the rare feat. Still in the course of his career with the Custom Service, Ephraim was posted to the Corporate Services Department at the Headquarters as Staff Officer in charge of discipline with a record of having the highest number of cases sorted out during his tenure. He was later moved to Tincan Island Port, and was subsequently posted to Classic Bonded Terminal that had closed down. 

Mr. Ephraim Inyang-Eyen, endowed with sound managerial acumen, turned around the hitherto comatose terminal within three months with an impressive revenue stream. He went on to serve as O/C terminal there before being posted to FANO Bonded Terminal.

As a reputable citizen and responsible officer, Ephraim Inyang-Eyen has attended several courses among which are: Customs & Excise Course (1990/1991); Customs & Excise Refresher Course (2002), General Scanner Operations Training Course (2010); Train the Trainer Delivery Skill for the Customs Services (2010); Extended Computer Skill/NCIS (2010); Breakthrough Programme for Chief Superintendents of Custom (2011); Leadership, Change, Management Work Ethics Attitudinal Change and Value Re-orientation for Senior Officers of NCS (2012); General Scanner Operations and Maintenance Officer Training (2012); General Scanner Operations, Technical Manager Training (2012); National Single Window/Change Management & Stakeholder Engagement & Capacity Building Workshop (2012); to mention but a few.

In recognition of his sterling qualities and industry, Mr. Ephraim Inyang-Eyen is a recipient of numerous Honors, Awards and Recognitions including: Certificate 0f Merit as Patron- Akwa Ibom State Students (NAAKISS) JULY, 2000;  Role Model Award - Sage Communications International (December 2010); Transport Development Excellence Encouragement Award (2009); and, Award for providing Trade Facilitation in Customs by Transquest Magazine (2009).

Other accolades in his kitty are, Transport Development Excellence Award conferred as special Encouragement Award for promoting trade facilitation-Transquest Magazine(2010); Golden Award for Excellence, Honesty, Hardwork and Accountability by Nigeria Print Journalism Development(2011); Customs Commitment Merit Award in Recognition of Outstanding Operation and Ethics to place Nigeria Customs Service in the front burner by skyline 24Hrs Newspaper (2014); Association of Movie Practitioners(AMP) Akwa Ibom State Chapter-Award for Excellence for Outstanding Support for Success of the movie - WOMAN'S RIGHT and the fight against human rights abuse and violence against women (2014); Transport Development Excellence Award (TDEA) as Customs Operative with exemplary MIDAS TOUCH by Quest Media Group (2014); Federated Chapel, Nigeria Union of Journalists and Award for Excellence from the University of Lagos Alumni Association (Lagos Branch).

Mr Ephraim Inyang-Eyen is a team player with good leadership qualities and effective interpersonal and communication skill. In recognition of his demonstrated commitment to creating, maintaining, and managing consulting practice and ethics, the Institute of Management Consultants elected Ephraim Inyang as Fellow of the Institute - 2015 and on December 12, 2015 the MBOHO MKPARAWA IBIBIO inducted Mr. Ephraim Akparawa Inyang-eyen as a member of the organization.

Consequent upon his superlative performance and contributions to the transformation of the Divine Mandate of his Excellency the Governor in the road infrastructural development, the Akwa Ibom State Government (the Executive Council) in the third quarter of 2015 decorated this Man of Uncommon wisdom with the QUARTERLY AWARD for outstanding performance. Having achieved set goals in public administration, the West Africa Student Union Parliament (WASUP) bestowed on Mr Inyang-eyen the KWAME NKRUMAH Award of Excellence. 

Also recently, the Akwa Ibom Youth Prays honoured him for his unconditional love and in improving the lives of next generation. In view of his gigantic contributions to church development, the Church Management Support Ministry honoured Mr Inyang-eyen with Award of Recognition as an Ambassador in Governance. For his enormous contribution to media development, the Nigeria Media Nite-Out Award in its 10th Anniversary conferred an Award of Excellence on him for his contribution to infrastructure development in Akwa Ibom State.

The success story of Mr. Ephraim Akparawa Inyang-eyen does not end with his public service career as a Custom Officer. Through his vision, handwork and dedication to a worthy cause, he was appointed Chairman Board of Trustees of the Transformation Initiatives in Akwa Ibom State, a social-political organization which today gives birth to the Divine Mandate and the emergence of Governor Udom Emmanuel in the State. 

In view of his outstanding pedigree, numerous contributions and selfless services, Ephraim Inyang-eyen is currently serving in the Executive Council of Akwa Ibom State Government as Honorable Commissioner for Works. 

He is happily married to Mrs Ime Ephraim Inyang and the union is blessed with five children.

ENGR. (MRS.) M. M. ADETIBA - ENGINEER Engr. (Mrs.) Mayen Modupeola Adetiba was born on the 17th of April, 1951 in Ilorin. living at 7, Ogunkelu Avenue, Arowojobe Estate, Maryland, Lagos. A native of Ibeno from Akwa Ibom State, South South of Nigeria. Graduated from Reagan Memorial Baptist Girls High School, Yaba, Lagos in 1968 with the WASC. In May 1975, she graduated from Columbia University School of Engi neering, New York, City, with a B.Sc in Civil Engineering. She proceeded to Cornell University, Ithaca, New York where she earned her Master’s in Engineering Civil - MEC degree, specializing in Structural Engineering in May, 1976. Engr. Mayen Adetiba - Engineer Upon her return to the country in 1976, she worked briefly with the engineering firm Structure-eng of the former Vice President, Arc. Alex Ekwueme as a pupil engineer.
